When I first looked into the eyes on the portraits of the monkeys, I was immediately reminded of my black pug. I then viewed his dog portraits and found out that he paints pugs too!

Gravity 14 Juan Perdiguero Ink on paper. 101cm x 76 cm

This work was made in 2017 by a man named Juan Perdiguero. He is a mixed media artist from Spain who currently lives in the USA. It is ink on paper, and large in size measuring 40″ x 30″. The composition is symmetrical. Mid to low key tones are used on the figure. A light toned background creates a Chiaroscope affect. The main focus is pug lying down front face view. Sad pleading eyes stare out at the viewer. Dimensions are created using shading. small thin lines give the texture of hair. The texture feels soft and fuzzy to my eye. Achromatic color scheme is used. Juan Perdiguero likes to paint dogs. This piece was part of an exhibit in 2018 called “Gravity” at the Moret Art Gallery in Coruna Spain. As an artist he communicates emotion of solitude and anxiety. The mood of the work reads a little melancholic. It is so hard to say no to those pleading puppy eyes. I hope to be able to convey some emotion in my drawing as well.

Nobu Renee French. Acrylic on board 6″ x 6″

Renee french was born in 1963 and is an American Artist. This painting is titled Nobu and is Acrylic paint on board. I could not find a date of its completion. Its proportions are small in size and measures a tiny 6″ x 6″. The subject is a pug-boxer cross. The visual weight of this painting is approximate symmetry. The figure is painted at an eye level viewpoint and is asymetrical. The repetition of many fine lines give the illusion of soft hair. The use of soft fuzzy lines also adds to the effect. Black is used to fill the negative space around the form. Renee French saturates her art with feelings. she likes to paint creatures who are not in the best of moods. I enjpy the whimsical aspect of these drawings. I was not surprised to see that she also had a drawing of a pug.
