It is fun to see them all flowing on the wheel.
What an experience making this completed wheel.

Tertiary Artwork Composition

I thought about what I could do with this rather strange color palate. I thought about a geometric swirly wheel thing with a spiraling color pattern. I was going to have to be very precise with everything to get an op-art sort of feel.

Sketchbook idea geometric color abstract.

Then I thought about the ocean. Secret underwater coral gardens filled with exotic fish and flowing plants. That sort of theme fit these colors better in my mind. And what is more glorious than a colorful Octopus? So fascinating to see them change color to blend onto the ocean floor. This seemed like a great idea!

Painted sheets of card stock waiting to be cut up into circles.

And so the cutting begins…

Stacking and gluing way to many circles. I wanted to represent as many color combinations as I could.
You think you have so many, and then you start laying them out and realize… YOU NEED 4 TIMES THAT AMOUNT!! I have chronic pain. The arthritis in my hands can be horrid some days. All this cutting took me to a whole new level of pain. “Stop talking Karen and start cutting!”

465 hand cut out circles glued into color patterns are ready to get placed and glued onto the octopus. Remember before, on the last assignment I said it was good to glue as you go along? Well this time for some reason I spent a lot of time arranging them perfectly where I wanted them to go. I did not want the same patterns touching each other. Well I got it looking fantastic. Then the cat came in and jumped up onto my desk and flipped it onto the floor. Good think I am working on this Mindful thing. The next day I came in, picked everything up, resorted and placed, then glued.

Further digital manipulations

I thought you would like to see where this one was taken digitally too. It will also be added to my stock of images that I use on things I sell. This will get printed onto cotton linen pillow covers and other items.
And postcards too! People love buying prints to frame.
