FIN 120 Unit 3

Complimentary Color Scales.

15 step scales of complimentary colors. I enjoyed what started happening with the orange and blue. The resulting green in the middle of that scale reminded of a lagoon I once saw in my travels. I chose to make my landscape painting with the complimentary colors green and red.

Complimentary Red Green Landscape

Started everything with a watered down green wash.

What sort of landscape was I going to paint. I have not left my house much in 3 years due to PTSD. I could paint the ugly row of houses that I see from my studio window. No thank you. What even is the definition of a ‘landscape’? Instructor Scot said it could be in any style. I am going into my mind and painting an abstract forest-scape.

When I enter the quiet, vast woods, my eyes can be drawn to many things. I see fairy worlds at the base of the trees. Goblins dressed in the frills of mushrooms waiting to attend the Midsomer ball. The tall trees become a background to the story that is being created right there on a microcosm level.

Painting in the big trees. Using big brushes as this is a very large painting.

Going in with layer of colors. Have a big plate full of red and green mixed paints. Scott says we can use white. Using some layers of white and then adding more pure color onto that.

Going further with paint.

I can show you were I took this next in my own personal exploration. I added in some gold metallic paint and some pearly white. I am happy with the final outcome.
