FIN 130 Unit 3

Research Assignment.

The first person I researched was Monami Ohno

-Born in Japan 1991

-Graduated from Osaka University of the Arts

-Trained in 3 D Animation

-Creates amazing complicated sculptures out of cardboard. Uses only scissors, a box cutter, ruler, glue, and masking tape

Due to her lack of money she couldn’t pay her shop fees for school. She decided to try repurposing some empty Amazon cardboard boxes into art. I relate to this as I am always finding discarded or free stuff to make my art. With so much free stuff out there waiting to be repurposed it seems a shame to go buy new supplies. I identify with this so much. I am always scrounging up art supplies and materials to make things. You don’t have to spend a fortune to make art.

The second artist I researched was Michael Murphy.

-American sculptor born 1975

-Pioneer of the ‘Perceptual Art Movement’

Michael Murphy creates 3D installations that involve suspending layers of objects in a way that their collective positioning Creates a single, coherent image. I like the way he deconstructs images into flat planes and then hangs them up to be viewed a certain way. It provides the opportunity to add unexpected viewing surprises depending on where you are standing and viewing the piece. Chaos morphs into order.

I do enjoy art pieces that have more than one viewpoint. There is nothing like discovering an added surprise when viewing artwork. I love a good instillation.
