Reflections on the NIC Artist Talk featuring Amber Morrison Fox

It was interesting to hear someone talk from just down the road. Reminds me that anyone can make it big. I am interested to read the book ”How to make art at the end of the world” by Natalie Loveless. I related to her quote ”…make and study what I love and see where it leads me.”
I wonder how far she would have got without her partner Mathew collaborating with her? So many people miss opportunities because they just do not have the support they need. She seems to have found the perfect partner. She can dream up the ideas/concepts, and he can create them and bring them into reality. An example of this was the piece of art they are proposing to the city of Nanaimo. A big shell chair. To see her little pencil sketch, and his 3 d model together was the perfect union.
I have never thought much about the art of video games. I am too old for that culture. I had to turn the sound off during her video artwork GTA Abstraction. The heavy bass line just about exploded my eardrums! I did enjoy her simulator of the Nanaimo Art Gallery. It would be fun to explore other venues as well. This is the future in experiences.
I understand her desire to go back to making small easy fun art. Something low in commitment. To just have fun and play within the process and see what happens.
I have known for a long time that I need a website. Hearing her talk about their website just reinforces again to me. Also the platform of Instagram and other social media to sell ones artwork.
