Guest Artist Reflection Aimee Henny Brown

I very much enjoyed this talk. She went over a variety of interesting and useful topics. I liked her use of mind mapping, and going through the exercise of how she maps things out. For me, it is an easier way to see connections. She called it a ’birds eye view.” I can relate.

I thought is was important to hear what she said about residency, and her realistic talk about finances. Juggling a job and your art can be difficult. I have yet to explore this concept of artist residency and having time and space dedicated to an artist practice. I have been thinking about going to England and studying Roman pottery. This Artist Talk has given me more ideas about such things.

I love collage. It is amazing how people view it as ’not art’ as it involves pre printed material. The Cappricci Style painting by Hubert Robert c1760 was amazing. After seeing all her collage work, I am determined to explore this art form more.

I do so love to get lost in the world of miniatures. My father use to build miniature railroads as a hobby. I learned about O-scale, and how to make trees from furnace filters from him. Her mixed media miniatures draw me in, and my mind starts creating stories about who lives there and what they got going on. I love making miniature dioramas and am always excited to see other peoples created worlds. Also, her scale is spot on.
