Project 3 Research and Build
Art Book
I have decided to make an Accordion style book. There will be 16 pages. The front side of the pages will follow my Direct Maternal Lineage. The backside will follow the Lunar Cycles of the Moon.
I created a Mind Map to sort the elements out.
I did some more Brainstorming on the title and came up with more possible brook names.

Spent time on the computer writing down all the names of my female line. It gave me time with each of these ladies to think about them and what life was like in their journey.
I can only go back to Marie Boulain 1500 at this time. I added in two more pages to the back of the book. Those women as yet, cannot be named, but they are not nameless. I look forward to ripping off the back cover of the book to add more names in the future.
The backside of the book will depict the lunar phase. I also printed out womanly attributes. I had to glue these on, as it was getting too complicated to figure out how to print everything in order. I did make a couple mini mock ups to figure out where everything was suppose to be going. I purchased some vintage coloured paper to print onto. I figured out I could fit 2 pages with 3 names each onto each sheet of paper. When done, I cut them out and glued them onto each other and folded into an accordion.
Time to make a Front and Back cover for my book. I have this fabric that can be printed onto. I found an old book cover and printed it to size. I cut out 2 squares of cardboard a bit bigger than my book pages. Using glue, I glued them together. I folded the pieces around to the back and glued them in place. These were then glued onto the book pages. I added a piece of red string at the back to hold the book closed.
I felt very satisfied when I had finished my book. It came out mostly how I wanted it look. One thing I would do in the future different, is use proper book binding paste, and acid free papers. Putting more thought into the longevity of future works..
I feel that this artwork has taken me into a new direction. It has helped solidify the idea of channelling my ancestors and letting their talents and gifts speak through me as well. I look forward to adding to this body of work in the future.
